Good Morning, Jay and fellow pray-ers,
I thought I would send you this update concerning my mother:
Sandie & Susie (my 45-year-old twin sisters) and I went with our mother to her follow-up colonoscopy appointment yesterday afternoon. As we held our breath, the doctor told us that, yes, there were some cancerous mucous cells, as well as that cancerous polyp in her sigmoid colon, but he was sure that he had gotten it all. It has not gone any deeper than the mucous layer. To make sure, he scheduled a CAT scan and ordered some blood work, and she’ll have a sigmoidoscopy on December 10th. Thank You, God, for answering this prayer! And, THANK YOU for your prayers for her!
However, the more pressing issue will be addressed this afternoon – PRAISE GOD!!! My sister, Susie, insisted that Mother be seen before December 4th.
I went with Mother last Monday (11/9) for her colonoscopy – there had been blood in her stool for several months. Then on Wednesday, my sister, Chris, went with her for an appointment with her cardiologist, whom I had insisted she see. Mother has heart disease – found this out 17 years ago…she’s had two angioplasties. I thought perhaps she was having heart attacks. She has been having some serious breathing problems – almost died twice! She starts coughing, and all of a sudden, her airway locks up – no air in or out! Just as we were beginning to eat lunch after her colonoscopy on the 9th, she started coughing, and I thought, “Oh my gosh! She’s going to have an episode right now!!!” We went outside and I asked her if I should call 911! With tears running down her cheeks, she shook her head ‘no’ while she fought and fought to breathe as she coughed! She did finally get it under control. But, I had NO idea that TWICE she had been on her bathroom floor – turning blue! When Susie relayed that this is what she told the person who didn’t seem to think she needed to be seen by the ears/nose/throat specialist till December 4th, I told her, “SHE DIDN’T TELL ME THAT!!!” Scared the living daylights out of me!
Her cardiologist ordered a swallow test, which was done last Thursday. After the test, the gal said Mother would be getting a call regarding the results. But, less than an hour later, my sister, Chris’ cell phone rang: they had seen something and told Mother that she needed to get to an ENT immediately. I guess someone thought December 4th was immediate enough. Susie explained the urgency yesterday to the appointment gal in the ENT’s office, and, THANK GOD, she is going to be seen this afternoon.
About a month ago, after the 2nd episode, I suggested that Mother receive the Sacrament of the Sick. She did finally receive this sacrament last Friday afternoon…then returned home to find that letter about the colon cancer!
SO…hopefully they can begin TODAY whatever tests need to be done to find out why she keeps having this unpredictable breathing problem! We are all more worried about this than the possible colon cancer. Yes, God IS going to call our mother home some day, and she is ready whenever He is. She prays every day after Holy Communion: Dearest Jesus, I offer to You, even now, with all its pains, anxieties and sufferings, whatever kind of death it shall please Thee to be mine. But, all nine of us would like to have her with us for many more years – God Willing!
THANKS for your continued prayers for her!
In the Hearts of Jesus & Mary,
Nancie
