Can you please pray for my son Steven, he needs to get a job, he is going to present himself at a grocery store tomorrow Loblaws in Hull Quebec because his father works for this company for 25 years and put in a good word for him. I have lost my job since the beginning of September and we have three children in school in the city and we are paying for their apartment and nearly all the bills. They pay for some of the food. He is in hockey and it is costing us a lot of money, so please offer it up that he gets this job, I will be very grateful for this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Faithful Family and Friends of Prayer,

Peace and blessings to you as I complete my 11th day of Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary!

Please pray for the following individuals:

Katherine , Mike’s sister-in-law, one our housemates, has been hospitalized. After a CT-Scan was administered, the radiologist acknowledged that there were lesions on her liver. Today, “Kitty” will have other tests, including a colonoscopy to determine if there are other health issues. Let us pray that our Heavenly Father will lay His Healing Hand upon this very kind and gentle woman and restore her to complete health according to His Holy will.

Linda R, a mother, grandmother in her 60’s and a good friend of Caroline P’s mother, has been diagnosed with cancer in her stomach, liver and her lymph nodes. May our good, loving and merciful God restore Linda to complete health if it be His Holy will.

Haiti, an island first devastated by a tremendous earthquake and then subjected to a Hurricane, is now suffering from a pervasive outbreak of Cholera. CNN news said today that there are too many cases and not enough spaces to deal with an epidemic of such great proportions. Let us pray to our good, loving and merciful God to urge the world health community, many private philanthropic organizations and the general public to send the needed aid for the Haitians in order to combat this pernicious disease taking many lives. Let us be generous with our human resources and financial support.

Officer David, a 31 year-old Wildlife Conservation Officer from Waynesboro, PA, was shot and killed in the line of duty by a deer poacher, near Fairfield, PA just a few miles from here. Let us pray to our good and loving God to embrace David into His Most Sacred Heart. Let us also pray for the immortal soul of the man who intentionally killed Officer Grove so that he is remorseful of his crime and save his immortal soul.

Victoria , a 35 year-old former Army specialist, was seriously wounded in the Iraq war and is no longer deployable due to a serious leg injury and chronic pain. Let us pray that our good and loving God may grant Victoria peace so that she may continue to live her life to its fullest potential.

Dearest Family and Friends,

While I am praying in solitude, I have reading, in consideration of my own chronic illnesses and those of others, several spiritual books and the lives of many Saints. Here are just some brief thoughts of how many, if not all of the Saints, lived their lives. If you happen to be graced by God to suffer, try to offer up your suffering in union with God, with the love of the Holy Spirit, so that Our Blessed Mother may take our gifts of suffering to God the Father in order to save souls. God will grant you peace and joy in all your trials and tribulations. Holy Father, St. Francis, is one of our greatest role models in suffering, yet there are so many others as well, too numerous to mention, especially all the martyrs throughout salvation history. All Saints have one thing in common: suffering! Peace be with you always and be assured of my prayers for you at daily Mass.

God bless you always,

tom

Saint John of Avila once wrote to a sick priest: "My dear friend, - Do not weary yourself planning what you would do if you were well, but be content to be sick for as long as God wishes. If you are seeking to carry out God's will, what difference should it make to you whether you are sick or well?'' The saint was perfectly right, for God is glorified not by our works, but by our resignation to, and by our union with, his holy will. In this respect Saint Francis de Sales used to say we serve God better by our sufferings than by our actions.

This story by Saint Bonaventure in his "Life of Saint Francis" is in point: On a certain occasion when the saint was suffering extraordinary physical pain, one of his religious meaning to sympathize with him, said in his simplicity: "My Father, pray God that he treat you a little more gently, for his hand seems heavy upon you just now." Hearing this, Saint Francis strongly resented the unhappy remark of his well-meaning brother, saying: "My good brother, did I not know that what you have just said was spoken in all simplicity, without realizing the implication of your words, I should never see you again because of your rashness in passing judgment on the dispositions of divine providence." Whereupon, weak and wasted as he was by his illness, he got out of bed, knelt down, kissed the floor and prayed thus: "Lord, I thank thee for the sufferings thou art sending me. Send me more, if it be thy good pleasure. My pleasure is that you afflict me and spare me not, for the fulfillment of thy holy will is the greatest consolation of my life."

Lastly, but not in conclusion, Blessed Charles de Foucauld says, “Life or death, health or sickness are God’s business and not ours; whatever He gives us in this way is good for us.”

As I mentioned, this is just a brief sampling of the many Saints who suffered according to God’s Holy will. When you have some free moments, read one of the many biographies of the life of St. Francis, Blessed Charles de Foucauld, St. Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross, St. Catherine of Siena, St. Martin of Tours, St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross-Edith Stein, St. Lawrence, St. John Chrysostom, St, Mary Magdalene, St. Sebastian, St. Faustina, St. Gianna Beretta Molla, Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, Venerable Pope John Paul II, Blessed Pope John XXIII, Ste. Therese de Lisieux, Ste. Bernadette Soubirous, St. Alphonsus Liguori, the patron Saint of Arthritis, or even your own patron. The above is also a very brief list of the many Saints who suffered for the love of doing God’s Divine will.
St. Alphonsus Liguori, Doctor of the Church, wrote many books. My two favorites are The Glories of Mary and The Victories of the Martyrs.

Of course, our greatest model of suffering is Jesus! Jesus dictated explicitly His dolorous Passion to Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich in the fourth volume of The Life of Jesus. Mary, our Immaculate Mother is the most perfect imitator of her Son, Jesus. That is why she is given such titles as of Mother of Sorrows, Queen of Martyrs and Co-redemptrix.

God bless you always,

tom

Update on my Procedure:

Dear Family and Friends:

First and foremost I thank our God the Father for His continued Mercy and I also thank each and everyone of you for all your prayers. I, Gloria Costello, went today for my procedure to have fluid taken out of my lung. I knew this would be painful and offered it to our Lord. I had this procedure done on August 30th and suffered a collapsed Lung. So needless to say I was worried. I had a monitor look for the fluid before the procedure and the technician could not find the fluid. She took the pictures to the Doctor doing the procedure and he determined there was not enough fluid to take out or worry about. Therefore I did not have to have this procedure done. Thanks to our God the Father and to all of your prayers. Like I have said many times over I truly believe in the power of prayer and in our God the Father's mercy. God bless you all Love Frank and Gloria
