Dearest friends:

Here is the update on Don.  I can only say, miracles do occur.  Don had apparently pulled off the road onto the breakdown lane, to dislodge ice from his windshield wiper.  Colorado had had its first blizzard snow of the winter last night, and, as I previously mentioned, Don had to go to this settlement conference because the opposition wouldn't postpone it.

He got out of the car carefully, sensitive to the traffic on the highway, but more concerned about anyone who might also get into the breakdown lane.  As he got back in the car and adjusted the mirror, he saw just that. A car careening towards him from behind in the same breakdown lane.  He had the presence of mind (Holy Spirit!) to accelerate his car, so that it was moving when the gal struck him, going 65 miles an hour, from behind.  The trunk of his car is in the back seat, completely smashed.  His car rocketed all the way to the right, into banked snow and then spun around with tremendous force 270 degrees, facing precisely in the opposite direction.  Thanks to God that it did not spin into and onto the oncoming highway traffic.

The 1986 Mercedes is like an armored personnel carrier.  Don also had had special orthopedic seat and back cushions installed, with supporting rods in them, for when he has to make long drives for cases.  We all had bad joints in my family, and he is awaiting his second hip replacement.  These things, together with his seat belt and the headrest, saved his life.

Remarkably, he was released from the hospital about 2:00 this afternoon.  He has a "closed head injury" and that must be carefully monitored, and he's in a soft collar, and we worry about chronic pain/soft tissue injuries, but prayer obtains all.  I just want to thank all of you and ask your continued prayers for Don's complete recovery.

I'll let you know how he progresses...

God bless each and every one of you. We couldn't make it without you.

Fran
